EMBEDDED SYSTEMS ENGINEER
We are seeking a highly driven trailblazer – with a keen interest in the intersection of research and commercial contexts – to join our enthusiastic team. Applicants must be excellent problem solvers, have superior written and oral communication skills, and have the ability to grasp and communicate complex technical concepts. In addition, applicants must be self-driven with a strong work ethic, detail-oriented, efficient, highly organized, and able to manage multiple tasks at once while coordinating team effort.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Embedded Systems Engineering for Medical Devices
  • Product development engineering tasks to support product engineering team;
  • Design and prototyping small-scale electrical and mechanical systems and sub-systems;
  • Documentation of activity under regulatory and Quality Management systems;
  • Engineering activities with outside company collaborators.
General responsibilities include:
  • Contributing to a safe working environment by maintaining own workspace and reporting any potential hazards;
  • Working collaboratively to foster relationships with Marketing, Product Support, Operations, and Engineering.

The ideal candidate will be someone who thrives on variety and enjoys wearing multiple hats. In addition, the successful applicant must be able to readily adapt to the changing needs of a small, innovative organization and can develop and adhere to a productive schedule. This position is offered as a full-time role.

Education
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Biomedical (with Electrical focus) Engineering.
  • Experience with co-op or internship programs is an asset.
  • Coursework in technology commercialization, project management, and quality assurance is a plus.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience in developing embedded systems hardware, firmware, and software
  • Embedded C programming
  • CAN, I2C, RS232 hardware and firmware development
  • Digital and analog circuit design
  • ARM Cortex M0, M3 and M4 microcontroller hardware and firmware development
  • PCB layout and schematic capture (Altium preferred)
  • Experience in prototyping and design for manufacturing
  • Experience in project documentation under a Quality Management System
  • Experience with regression testing, product testing, FMEA, etc.
  • Superior written communication/documentation skills
  • Strong organizational, analytical, task and time management skills
  • Experience using laboratory equipment (oscilloscope, function generator, multimeter, logic analyzer)
  • Strong oral communication skills

Desired Knowledge & Skills
  • Equipment, tooling, and component procurement experience.
  • Hands-on fabrication (soldering, PCB repair, small tool use) experience is an asset
  • GUI development
  • CAD (Solidworks preferred)
  • Digital signal processing and analysis
  • Experience using RTOS
  • Knowledge of product development methodologies
  • Medical device knowledge (prosthetics preferred)
  • Experience with regulatory testing methods and design guidelines
